Andrew Plotkin is considered by many within the community as the best example of a modern interactive fiction writer - there's little question that had he been born a decade earlier, he would stand just as tall as anything made professionally. In his role as programmer, he's created standards and programs that advanced the whole environment of writing interactive fiction. In his work as a creator, he's written some of the finest works in the canon: Spider and Web, Shade, Hunter in Darkness. So it was a no-brainer to have him involved - luckily, he'd recently moved local to me, and we set aside an evening to go over a lot about everything he was an expert in.
Since this interview was conducted, Andrew has run a fundraising campaign to work on interactive fiction full time, and he accomplished it handily - he has since been working on a number of tools for adding interactive fiction to the iPad.
